The Royal Free Hospital Kidney Patients Association is run entirely on a voluntary basis for the benefit of renal patients and membership is open to all Royal Free London renal patients.
The RFHKPA represents the interests of and raises issues on behalf of Royal Free London renal patients. We have patient representatives in satellite units at Edgware Kidney Care Centre, St. Pancras Kidney and Diabetes Centre, Tottenham Hale Kidney and Diabetes Centre and Barnet Dialysis Unit. RFHKPA provides advice and directs patients to appropriate services or organisations. We work closely with social workers to provide funds for patients with hardship problems.
Funding
The RFHKPA is funded solely by donations. Patients and their families often show their appreciation for the way they have been looked after by the renal team and kindly make donations or set up regular donations by direct debit. Every pound makes a difference to our kidney patients and it goes to fund the help that we are able to give. These funds can help Royal Free Kidney patients with genuine hardship cases.
Member events
The RFHKPA organises fundraising activities, collects donations and makes responsible spending decisions. It produces information literature and organises patient and family social events, day trips, Christmas parties, as well as promoting national renal events. We also organise Kidney Awareness events e.g. Organ Transplant Week, World Kidney Day and NKF annual events. RFHKPA events are subsidised from donated funds.
Support
The RFHKPA plays an important role in ensuring an efficient hospital patient transport service and we take up patient issues when problems occur.
New patients can look for our advice to guide them through their kidney journey as an addition to the information the renal team provides. And all our patients can contact the RFHKPA to discuss their kidney concerns.
