To celebrate World Kidney Day, on 16th March 2025, the Black Living Donor Choir hosted their patient engagement event, the “Harmony for Hope” concert.
This was a musical celebration and also gave the opportunity to learn more about the life-saving impact of living kidney donation.
The Black Living Donor Choir was formed in 2022 by Dela Idowu, the founder of Gift of Living Donation (GOLD), as a creative platform to raise awareness of living donation in the Black community.
The “Harmony for Hope” event was a success, with some patients from the Royal Free attending. Many patients mentioned that attending the concert and singing along with the choir improved their mental and emotional wellbeing; being a kidney patient can be quite isolated. For this reason, the Choir is encouraging patients pre- & post-transplant, especially those from the Black community (who don’t often access the services available), to sign-up to join the Choir as singers. The Choir believes this will be beneficial and valuable for kidney patients.
