Funmi Lawal, a RFHKPA Trustee, Vice Chair and Rep, has recently been awarded an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) in the New Year’s Honours List. An MBE is awarded for an outstanding achievement or service to the community. This will have had a long-term, significant impact and stand out as an example to others.
She was awarded the MBE in recognition of her outstanding contributions to disability, entrepreneurship and volunteering.
Funmi’s commitment to volunteering spans years of service within the kidney and wider health community, where she has consistently advocated for equity, education, and patient empowerment.
As a kidney patient, she has used her experience to champion the rights, dignity, and visibility of people with disabilities.
